Rick Heltne

Senior Consultant

Richard J. Heltne Jr.is a Senior Consultant with SIMA® International. He specializes in retained search work for churches and nonprofit organizations, placing leaders into director through executive-level positions.

Rick's experience of more than 20 years working in and with churches and faith-based organizations provides him with the insight and understanding required to serve those entities well, not only by identifying the right set of gifts, skills, and motivations needed in a leadership role, but also to honor the sensitivities of cultural fit.

Rick has been an area director for Young Life, spent more than 11 years as the Pastor to Students and Families at a large Lutheran church in Minneapolis, and for 8 years was the vice president of graduate education with Youth Leadership, Inc. He has taught graduate-level courses at two seminaries, and supervised a professional internship program for graduate students.

As the father of two young-adult sons, Rick is highly interested in assisting people who are navigating life transitions, whether emerging into adulthood or deciding what to do in the second half. He particularly enjoys helping organizations see the possibilities in the lives of those who are moving from one stage to the next. He also is compelled by the ways in which churches are being required to re-think and respond to cultural and global changes.

Rick is passionate about golf, is an avid and eclectic reader, and loves to spend summer days and nights with his family at their cabin in northern Minnesota.
